Tom and I woke up and realized that our plan of fly fishing would have to adapt to the weather, which was dumping snow on us. We (I) was sore from the previous day's snowmobiling, and the snow was particularly wet and heavy, so we figured on a day of hanging around. Tom had seen a wrecked land cruiser in a junkyard near his house, so we decided to investigate.
I had recently broken my hvac controls, due to my gorilla-handed tactics (if it doesn't move, and I think it should move, bang on it until it moves). This m.o. gave me the opportunity to rebuild numerous parts on the truck including the dimmer switch (I'm sure if I just keep twisting it it'll turn on my headlights) and others.
Tom had come across a pristine cruiser for very little money (a friction point in our relationship) and his main gripe was that the truck was a little dusty. Seriously. It had more original parts and stickers than I've ever heard of, much less seen. It did however have a cracked dash, so we attempted to address this.
A few trips to the junkyard resulted in a bunch of stock bolts, a distributor boot and the hvac cable to replace my gorilla'd piece, and a few other bits, as well as a dash pad, opening/closing vents for the center of the dash and a few other bits for Tom. We disassembled my truck, his truck, and put it all back together. as I told Tom, I wouldn't say that I was "surprised" that everything worked at the end, just very pleased.
No pics, as I was too focused on the tasks at hand, but a great day of wrenching and addressing various points on the trucks.
