Thursday, March 26 (Snowbird!)

I woke up on Thursday with the intention of getting on the road as quickly as possible and getting to San Francisco. However, nature had other plans. 40 inches of fresh powder had fallen in the prior 24-36 hours, and it had changed from the heavy wet powder on Wednesday to delicious light and fluffy snow. San Francisco had to wait.

Words really can't describe the conditions. I took photos which do it no justice. I'm from the east coast, and I've only taken one trip out west (Tahoe, at Heavenly). I just have never seen snow like this. We started out in the morning and it was whiteout conditions on our way to the mountain. They closed the pass we had to take because they were doing controlled avalanches. We had to wait in the trucks, which gave us time to change and meditate on the fun to come.

The actual mountain was nuts. dropping into double black diamond couloirs and having 3-4 feet of powder cushioning me was a totally new experience. It was literally like surfing snow. Not hearing the board at all was new. It wasn't a "hey, good day, not so much ice chatter" - this was entirely different. I just burst out laughing randomly throughout the day because I was out of words.

No more attempts to describe. I'll just post my pics.
